The AGYU believes that an art gallery should serve an aesthetic and social function and should be fluid and flexible—transforming itself through engagement with artists, communities, and the world as it changes. We are dedicated to producing high quality, award-winning exhibitions, public programs, education projects, residencies, and publications. The AGYU is committed to conceiving and producing large-scale multifaceted initiatives that extend the social role of the gallery through sustained engagement with underserviced communities through education and public programs that serve general and specialized art audiences, students, artists, and youth in our surrounding Jane–Finch neighbourhood. Our education program is dedicated to engaging with communities, in particular our surrounding neighbourhood of Jane–Finch, to empowering youth through long-term mentorship programs, to bringing different disciplines and communities together through workshop and event-based programs, and to giving new generation artists their first professional opportunities.
