In partnership with Shwasti, artist Sarvenaz Rayati will engage children and youth through series of free
weekly visual arts workshops that will lead to an art installation consist of series of painted human lantern
figures at Dentonia park. The project’s focus is to connect people with nature, trees in particular through art making activities and hopes to bring awareness to life of trees. This is a Cultural Hotspot SPARK project in partnership with the City of Toronto.

There will be two workshops:
Free weekly visual arts workshop with the theme of nature for children age 9 -13 that will introduce
participants to painting and drawing skills. The students will create a final painting that will be exhibited at
the day of the event. Participants will also paint the lanterns that will be made by Youth artist.
Days: July 15, 22, 29 Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26 Sept. 2

A selected group of youth artists will work with the artist to collaborate, conceptualize and create the human lantern figures. The youth will be paid an honorarium.

A fun festive community celebration for installation of the human lantern figures will take place at Dentonia park in the evening of 9th of September.

Sarvenaz Rayati


Sarvenaz is an Iranian visual artist now based in Toronto. Since coming to Canada she has been part of different community art projects including Coxwell mosaic mural. She is also an art educator working in schools and community centres organizing visual arts workshops. Shwasti is a grassroots community organization that works toward bringing peace and comfort towards family and community people.
