Scarborough Made in the Parks expands on the yearly programming by the Scarborough Made artist collective to now engage parkgoers in Toronto’s East. The project aims to engage the communities around Malvern through documentary storytelling and public art to represent and amplify the diverse narratives of local neighbourhoods.

Through Scarborough Made in the Parks, four emerging youth storytellers will be recruited from Malvern and across Scarborough to be part of a creative mentorship focused on developing skill-building around visual storytelling and creative placemaking.Over the summer months, Youth storytellers involved in the project will be able to identify and document community-driven stories to contribute to a print-based public art installation at Scarborough’s Neilson Park.
The public art installation will engage parkgoers and community organizations in Malvern by highlighting the intersections of people and places in Toronto’s East. The curation of this art installation will feature past & new works from the Scarborough Made collective documentary works which aims to build more dialogue around underrepresented narratives.
A one-day artist walkthrough will be held in August to launch this work into the public realm. The work will continue to live in Neilson Park for up to 1 month between August to September 30th, 2023 to continue building conversations with parkgoers and community members
