Ward’s Island Fire Parade
July 27 @ 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until Fri August 3rd 2018
on August 3rd, a community celebration of light and dark. Puppets, lanterns, spectacle arts, and live music form a swirling, processional performance with a water’s edge finale. Shadowland Theatre leads a community celebration of transformation and hope. Light and fire illuminate the spirit of the wild and our connection to the earth. This outdoor spectacle begins at the Wards Island clubhouse as everyone gathers, with music and handmade lanterns. Stilt-walkers, puppets, flags, and a parade band lead the procession, through the Island community, to the water’s edge finale.
Prior to the performance Shadowland will hold community workshops to create lanterns from locally grown willow, and tissue paper, and a production week where participants are invited to create costumes and puppet images, stilt-walk, play music and perform. Lantern workshops Sunday July 22 and 29, 2 to 5pm. Materials fee $25/lantern. Open to families but not suitable for small children. Open production workshops: July 27 to August 3. Daily 10am into the evening.
