This is an online event!

The Young Creators Ensemble workshop is part of Driftwood Theatre’s 2021 educational programming. The project brings together young artists aged 13-18 from priority communities (Guildwood, Malvern, Mimico, Clairlea) and around Toronto to collectively create an original audio piece that can be experienced by audiences in a self-guided format. Through the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Arts in the Parks program, Driftwood will be linked with four communities, from which four ensembles will be selected. Using a devised creation process, including prompts and provocations, exercises, and improvisation, each ensemble of young performance artists will create original content that will form one chapter of the project.

The final audio project, comprised of four chapters, could include song, monologues, scenes, spoken word poetry, and other sound focused on themes of community, isolation, nature, and healing. This project could be seen as a self-guided audio walking tour, an interactive audio installation, a site-specific multidisciplinary cabaret, or a pandemic theatre playlist. Whatever the definition, this project seeks to centre young artists and encourage them to tell their stories, in whichever way they choose.
