AFROFEST was first organized in 1989 after the realization that there was no event in Toronto that united the African community, presented African art and showcased the talent of African artists. In 1992, Music Africa was incorporated and aimed to: Promote African music in Toronto through festivals and occasional events, including AFROFEST as the premier event; Increase awareness and appreciation of African arts and culture to the wider community in Toronto and Canada; and Support and give exposure to local Canadian and international performers of African music and dance.
Music Africa's core business activity is promoting African Music and Culture in Toronto. This is done by organizing various cultural events like concerts, workshops, industry events, educational cultural seminars and the AFROFEST festival which is the largest platform for African artists in Canada to present their material and for the community to appreciate the diversity to African culture.
